Animated wallpapers for Windows

Your desktop, alive.

Animated gradients, videos, images, websites and widgets, set behind your icons on every screen. Arrange everything with the mouse, then switch from one mood to the next in a single click.

Backscape is coming soon for Windows 10 and 11.

Features

Everything you need to dress up your screens.

Your wallpaper sits beneath the desktop icons, which stay clickable. On top of it, add whichever modules you like, screen by screen.

01 · Live wallpapers

A wallpaper that moves, beneath your icons.

Backscape slips in behind your desktop icons: they stay right where they are, and you can still click them.

  • Animated gradient: ready-made themes, adjustable colors and speed
  • Solid color
  • Local image: fill, fit or stretch
  • Video, with sound if you like
  • “None” mode: your current wallpaper stays, even a Wallpaper Engine one, and only the modules are shown on top

03 · Websites as wallpaper

Any website, right on your desktop.

A Twitch stream, a dashboard, a tracking page: the site lives on your wallpaper and stays out of your taskbar.

  • Hold Alt (or Alt + click) to interact with the page
  • Isolate a single element of the page, such as just the video player
  • Buttons to reload and to turn the sound on or off (muted by default)
  • Freeze watchdog for live video streams
Alt Hold Alt to interact
Freeze watchdog: stream monitored

Try it: hold Alt (or tap the Alt button), then click the stream

04 · Desktop widgets

What matters, always in sight.

Understated modules that blend with your wallpaper. Colors, font and sizes are set per widget, and “apply this style to all” brings the rest in line.

05 · Visual editor

Arrange everything with the mouse, live.

All your screens appear in their real positions. Grab a module and move it: it moves on your actual desktop at the same time.

  • Drag-and-drop modules
  • Alignment tools (center, edges), snapping and adjustable margins
  • Taskbar area shown so nothing ends up hidden beneath it
  • From one screen to another: the screen switches after a brief hover, with a glow along the edges

The module moves on your real desktop too.

Try it: drag the clock with your mouse or finger, all the way to screen 2

06 · Presets

A mood for every moment.

A preset saves a complete setup: the wallpaper and modules on every screen. Work, gaming, streaming… switch everything at once.

  • Each preset gets its own color and thumbnail
  • Animated wipe transition when you switch
  • Switch from the app or from the taskbar icon

07 · Multi-monitor

Every screen gets its own setup.

A different wallpaper and modules on each screen, or nothing at all on the one you game on. Portrait screens are supported.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

When does Backscape come out?

Soon. Write to contact@backscape.app, or use the “Notify me at launch” button, and you’ll get an email the day it’s released.

What do I need to run it?

A 64-bit PC running Windows 10 or Windows 11. Backscape works with one or more screens, in landscape or portrait.

I already use Wallpaper Engine. Will it work alongside it?

Yes, thanks to “None” mode: Backscape keeps your current wallpaper, including a Wallpaper Engine one, and only shows your modules on top (clock, widgets, websites).

Is it heavy on resources?

It depends on what you display. A solid color or an image costs very little, while a video or a live stream on your wallpaper needs more, just as it would in a browser.

You can pause everything in one click from the notification area icon, for example before launching a game, or turn Backscape off on a single screen.

How do updates work?

New versions will be published on this site. Just run the new installer: it replaces the previous version and keeps your settings.

Can I still use my desktop icons?

Yes. The wallpaper sits behind your icons, which stay clickable. To interact with a website on your wallpaper, hold Alt.

What does “one-time purchase” mean?

You’ll pay €4.99 once. There will be no subscription and no paid add-on.
